Marlins center fielder Jonathan Davis was carted off the field after sustaining an apparent right knee injury in Miami’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday.Davis chased and dived as he attempted to catch Tommy Edman’s deep drive to lead off the fifth inning. Davis briefly had the ball in his glove but lost possession as he rolled on the warning track and immediately started favoring his knee. The 31-year-old Davis, acquired from Detroit on May 22, figured to get extended time in center field after starter Jazz Chisholm Jr. was placed on the injured list Monday because of a left oblique strain. By MAJDI MOHAMMED and IMAD ISSEID (Associated Press)JENIN, West Bank (AP) — The Israeli military began withdrawing troops from a militant stronghold in the occupied West Bank late Tuesday, security officials said, winding down an intense two-day operation that killed at least 12 Palestinians, confiscated hundreds of weapons and left a wide swath of damage in its wake. But heavy fighting between Israeli troops and Palestinian militants continued in parts of the Jenin refugee camp, delaying the planned pullout. The development came hours after a Hamas militant rammed his car into a crowded Tel Aviv bus stop and began stabbing people, wounding eight, including a pregnant woman who reportedly lost her baby. The attacker was killed by an armed bystander. Hamas said the attack was revenge for the Israeli offensive.Visiting a military post outside Jenin, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu indicated the operation, one of the most intense in the territory in nearly two decades, wa...Red Sox Notebook: Nathan Eovaldi admits he misses Boston ahead of first start against his former team

Like most players who enter pro hockey as teenagers, Fabian Lysell encountered his share of challenges in his first year with the Providence Bruins. The B’s first round pick in 2021 (21st overall) traversed hills and valleys throughout his season before it came to a dead end stop when he was the recipient of a late, high hit from Hartford’s veteran forward Adam Clendening in the Calder Cup playoffs after Lysell had delivered a pass and cut into the middle of the ice, concussing one of the B’s brightest prospects and ending his first pro year.Lysell started fast, had a tough World Junior Championships for Sweden and then see-sawed the rest of the season. The skilled right wing wound up with 14-23-37 totals in 54 games, a decent output for a player his age, though not quite the totals that would label him a can’t-miss-kid.“It’s a lot of new things, a lot of new things to take in,” said Lysell on Tuesday. “I feel like the start of the year was really good, ...Ticker: China throttles high tech metal exports; Nokia renews patent lease with Apple

China has imposed export curbs on two metals used in computer chips and solar cells, expanding a squabble with Washington over high-tech trade ahead of Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen’s visit to Beijing this week. The controls on gallium and germanium are intended to “safeguard national security,” the Commerce Ministry said late Monday. It said exports will require official permission once the rules take effect Aug. 1 but did not say what restrictions might be applied.China is the biggest global source of gallium and germanium, which are produced in small amounts but are needed to make computer chips for mobile phones, cars and other products, as well as solar panels and military technology.Yellen is due to arrive Thursday as part of efforts by the Biden administration to revive relations that have plunged to their lowest level in decades due to disputes about technology, China’s military buildup, human rights and other irritants.Nokia renews patent lease with...Yankees use Lou Gehrig’s ‘Luckiest Man’ anniversary to honor Sarah Langs, others battling ALS
