(WFLA) -- Google Maps has rolled out a new color scheme on both desktop and mobile versions of the app. The biggest change that users will notice is roadways are no longer white and yellow. They now appear in various shades of gray. Parks and other forest areas are a slightly different shade of green, while buildings are still gray and yellow. Google also said buildings will be more realistic to better help users find their way around using their surroundings."And on highways, where some of the trickiest driving maneuvers often happen (like that annoying exit that requires you to quickly cross multiple lanes), you'll see some improved lane details to help you feel prepared," Google said. Contact 2: Trouble in Toyland 2023 report ST. LOUIS – The Illinois Public Interest Research Group released its 38th annual Trouble in Toyland report on Monday. It gives parents and gift givers an idea of how specific smart toys work, as well as tips and questions to ask before buying toys with technology that can collect information about young children.“There are multiple reviews on Amazon with parents saying they opened this up, took it out of the box, and literally strangers started talking to their children on it,” Abe Scarr, director of the Illinois Public Interest Research Group, said. But Scarr says just because a toy has a camera or microphone doesn’t make it unsafe.“It’s about understanding how it works and whether it’s secure, and we think this is an example of a toy that does feature a camera,” he said. “It is a smart toy, but also is relatively safe.” Close Thanks for signing up! Belleville City Council votes to remove downtown parking meters BELLEVILLE, Ill. – The Belleville City Council approved a new bill to remove parking meters downtown."It is less confusing for people. The meters we've had here in Belleville are quite old. They're getting in disrepair,” David Schoenborn, owner of the Lincoln Theatre, said. “Some of them are even in dangerous conditions because they are falling off or have sharp edges.”Schoenborn said the parking meters cause a lot of confusion for visitors. That’s because you'll find free parking lots across the street from some meters. Missouri soldier awarded medal for saving drowning family Schoenborn said removing the remaining meters gives visitors consistency and eliminates the need for repairs. He had this advice for people visiting downtown Belleville."There's lots of free parking. The parking is just behind all of the buildings mostly and now it's going to be the streets, and all of the buildings will be more accessible to everyone, which I think is a good thing," he said. The city expect...
