Published Fri, 07 Feb 2025 10:16:50 GMT

A “parental rights” group whose critics say promotes anti-LGBTQ messaging apologized late Thursday night to San Jose councilmember Bien Doan for erroneously using the elected official’s photo on a flyer for an upcoming event hosted by the organization.“Our schools have fallen prey to a dangerous agenda pushed by politically driven educators seeking to indoctrinate our children at the expense of your family’s values and beliefs!” the flyer from Informed Parents of Silicon Valley reads. It also includes three books from LGBTQ authors, warning parents, “Did you know these books are available to children as young as five?”In a statement issued early Friday morning, Doan says he never gave permission to the organization to use his photo and was never informed of the agenda of the meeting, which was to take place at Seven Trees Community Center at 5:30 p.m. A date was not attached to the flyer.“A flyer has been circulating the web inco...

By Deidre McPhillips | CNNCovid-19 certainly didn’t take a vacation this summer. Virus levels in the US have been on the rise for weeks, but it’s hard to know exactly how widely it’s spreading.Federal data suggests that the current increases have stayed far below earlier peaks and notable surges.

MADRID (AP) — A Spanish government legal panel is opening a case against suspended soccer chief Luis Rubiales, the state news agency Efe said on Friday.Rubiales has come in for a storm of criticism and calls for his resignation for kissing a player on the lips without consent after Spain won the recent Women’s World Cup final in Sydney.FIFA has already suspended Rubiales for 90 days while it studies the case.Spain is looking to remove him independently of the FIFA process. Rubiales is the president of the Spanish Football Federation and a vice president of UEFA.Efe said the legal panel said Rubiales’ behavior would be studied for two possible cases of serious misconduct. The government hoped the panel would recommend very serious misconduct, a category that would allow the state’s sport body to ban him provisionally with a view to eventually declaring him unfit to hold the job. Rubiales can be disqualified for up to two years if found guilty.Spain’s culture and sports min...

College sports in the U.S. has seen scores of schools change conference affiliation over the past century, but the pace has quickened over the past three decades and certainly over the past year. DENVER (KDVR) — The Denver Broncos only won five games last year, and besides Russell Wilson, the team has some of the lowest-earning top players compared to the rest of the AFC West division. But even the lower-earning players are still making more than you. FOX31 looked through Spotrac's estimated salary rankings for the Denver Broncos and compared them to the rest of the AFC West. Can the Denver Broncos’ playoff drought come to an end? Just in case you wanted to find out how little you make, here are the top five players who make the most for their contract average annual value from each team: Denver BroncosWilson is the second-highest earner in the entire division. His contract AAV is even higher than Superbowl winner Patrick Mahomes. However, when it comes to the rest of the Broncos players, they are some of the lowest-paid top players in the division. Court hands win to defiant Spanish football chief over government

Published Fri, 07 Feb 2025 10:16:50 GMT

Spain’s highest court which deals with issues related to sports law on Friday decided football federation President Luis Rubiales’ forced kiss with forward Jenni Hermoso did not constitute a “very grave” violation of Spanish law.By opening an investigation into Rubiales for only a “grave” violation, as opposed to a more serious breach of the country’s Sports Law, the Administrative Tribunal for Sport made it impossible for the autonomous government agency that oversees all sporting activities in Spain to suspend the disgraced federation chief until a final verdict is issued. Secretary of State for Sport Víctor Francos, who presides over the country’s High Council for Sport, told Spanish media that the body would nonetheless request the court suspend Rubiales provisionally. The tribunal’s decision is a serious blow to Spain’s caretaker left-wing coalition government. Over the course of the week Deputy Prime Minister Teresa Ribera, ...
