SANTA CLARA — As beloved as Trey Lance was in two seasons with the 49ers, Friday’s trade did not exactly catch players off-guard, not after Brock Purdy seized the starting job with last season’s brilliance and not after Sam Darnold was announced Wednesday as the No. 2 quarterback ahead of Lance.A day later, the 49ers formally announced Lance’s trade to the Dallas Cowboys for a fourth-round pick, pending a physical.Coach Kyle Shanahan, after Friday’s preseason finale, described what he saw in the players’ sanctuary known as the locker room, where he talked to players before kickoff and alerted them postgame of awaiting questions from the media.“It was fine,” Shanahan said Saturday on a media conference call. “Guys saw (the news) earlier in the day. I’m in the locker room way before (kickoff) and a bunch of players are, so I got to talk to a bunch of guys. Trey came over here, John (Lynch) and I gave him the news personally. CHICAGO (AP) — Quarterback Josh Allen warmed up for the regular season by leading a scoring drive and the Buffalo Bills finished the preseason with a 24-21 win Saturday over the Chicago Bears.Allen completed 5 of 7 for 49 yards on Buffalo’s first possession. He left the game after Damien Harris’ 2-yard touchdown run up the middle ended the 72-yard drive.A vintage Allen pass made the touchdown drive possible as he rolled right then threw back across the field for 15 yards to Gabe Davis to set up the TD for the Bills (2-1).Buffalo’s Kyle Allen then took over for Josh Allen and made a strong statement in his bid to win the backup quarterback job over Matt Barkley. Kyle Allen, a former Texans quarterback who signed as a free agent, played the remainder of the game and led the Bills on three scoring drives, including a 29-yard TD pass behind the Bears secondary to Quintin Morris in the second quarter for a 14-3 lead.Safety Damar Hamlin had four tackles as he continued his comeback for th...Reportan muertos tras tiroteo en una tienda Dollar General en Jacksonville

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The Charlotte Hornets have agreed to a three-year, $48 million contract with starting forward P.J. Washington, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity Saturday because the deal is not expected to be signed and become official until early next week.ESPN was first to report the deal. The 25-year-old Washington was a restricted free agent and his new deal prevents him from hitting the unrestricted free agent market next summer. The 12th pick in the 2019 draft, Washington has spent all four seasons with the Hornets following his career at Kentucky. He is coming off a season in which he started 73 games for Charlotte and averaged a career-high 15.7 points to go along with 4.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.1 blocks per game. The 6-foot-7, 230-pound Washington averaged 2 3-pointers per game and shot just 34.8% from beyond the arc. MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — David Blough had a touchdown pass and a rushing score in a second-half rally by the Arizona Cardinals to beat the Minnesota Vikings 18-17 in their final preseason game on Saturday.Zach McCloud, who joined the team only four days ago, had three of Arizona’s six sacks of Minnesota rookie Jaren Hall.Davion Davis caught the touchdown pass from Blough, who spent last season on the practice squad with the Vikings and was vying for a spot on an unsettled Cardinals’ depth chart with Kyler Murray still in rehab mode from a torn ACL in his right knee late last season.Hall, a fifth-round draft pick out of BYU, had his most efficient performance to date in his bid to make the team behind Kirk Cousins and Nick Mullens. The Vikings haven’t kept a third quarterback on the active roster coming out of training camp in seven years.Hall went 16 for 27 for 178 yards, one touchdown and one interception and rushed six times for 21 yards. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Deshaun Watson led Cleveland on back-to-back touchdown drives, capping one with a toss to tight end David Njoku, before the Kansas City Chiefs’ backups overcame two pick-6s from their quarterbacks and rallied for a 33-32 victory over the Browns on Saturday in the exhibition finale for both teams.Browns kicker Cade York, whose job could be on the line after a tough preseason, gave them the lead with a 40-yard field goal with 4:23 to go. But the Chiefs quickly drove the other way, and Harrison Butker hit from 44 yards to regain the lead.York had another chance with less than a minute left, but his 43-yard attempt was partially blocked and never had a chance.Watson played sparingly in the Browns’ first three preseason games, so coach Kevin Stefanski gave him the entire first quarter against Kansas City (2-1). There were plenty of miscues, including a pair of fumbled handoffs, but the $230 million quarterback also provided some highlights once he sett...Lyles, Richardson anchor US sweep of relays at world championships

BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — Sha’Carri Richardson and Noah Lyles anchored the U.S. to back-to-back victories in the 4×100 Saturday, giving the Americans a sweep of the short relays at the world championships for the first time since 2007.For Lyles, it closed out a 3-for-3 championships. He’s the first man since Usain Bolt in 2015 to win the 100, 200 and 4×100 at worlds. When Lyles crossed the line, closing out a lap of 37.38 seconds for the U.S., he lifted three fingers in the air to punctuate what he’s done.Bolt won all three races at three championships, and also at the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Olympics. Now, Lyles will be trying to do it in Paris in 2024.The men stayed on the track to watch the women, and when Richardson crossed, lead runner Christian Coleman came out and tackled the 100-meter champion and they fell to the track. Richardson popped right back up and everyone laughed. She will leave Budapest with her two golds, plus a bronze in the 200.The U.S. women finished...Former Cup Series champ Kurt Busch formally retires while still recovering from concussion
