Evanston police investigating 'suspicious activity' involving Pride flags

EVANSTON — Evanston police are investigating after someone vandalized Pride flags with anti-LGBTQ+ messaging.Small, defaced pride flags were spotted Thursday on Central Street and near the Dempster Metra stop. The words "pride death" were written on each flag, and one of the flags was burned. Police listed the three locations:1700 block of Central Street2100 block of Central Street600 block of Dempster StreetPolice believe the incidents occurred in the early morning of July 27. There is no evidence yet of any specific threats made to members of the LGBTQ+ community. The suspect(s) responsible and the motive are pending investigation. BENSENVILLE, Ill. — A man is unresponsive after being pulled from a pond Friday afternoon in Bensenville.According to Bensenville police Chief Dan Schulze, the man slipped into the Redmond Pond in the 500 block of John Street. A Burnsville man was sentenced to 306 months in prison for the December 2021 shooting of a 33-year-old Eagan man, officials announced Friday.A Dakota County jury in May found Sakaria Osman Ahmed, 32, of Burnsville, guilty of second-degree murder for killing Faisal A. BELLEVILLE, Ill. - Authorities have arrested a man accused in a deadly shooting earlier this week at an Illinois MetroLink station.The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis has announced the arrest of Jarell M. Anderson, 23, in the investigation. Prosecutors have charged him with murder (with intent to kill or injure). Anderson was taken into custody Friday afternoon in St. Louis County. A man has been found guilty of attempted murder in the shooting of Littleton Police Officer David Snook.Rigoberto Valles-Dominguez, 35, was convicted by an Arapahoe County jury of multiple charges including aggravated robbery, assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury, first-degree assault and first-degree assault on a peace officer.“The defendant’s actions showed no regard for human life,” Chief Deputy District Attorney Jason Siers stated in a Friday news release. “While Officer Snook suffered serious injuries, it’s a miracle no one was killed.”On Sept. 20, 2021, officers responded to reports of shots being fired from a car window near West Powers Avenue and South Bannock Street.
