The Right’s Desperate Push to Tank ESG and Avoid Disclosing Climate Risks

Published Wed, 12 Feb 2025 07:00:59 GMT

The House of Representatives released the first report from its ESG Working Group in late June, highlighting priorities for the rest of the 118th Congress and making clear that Republicans won’t stop “investigating” environmental, social, and governance investing while there’s still a chance to save polluting companies from having to report their actual emissions. At its core, ESG is about information: When companies report on their environmental, social, and governance risks, which can range from high greenhouse gas emissions to particular hiring practices, investors use that information to determine whether they think a company is a good investment. The Republican-led House isn’t the only entity that’s become obsessed with ESG investing over the past two years. From political advocacy organizations like the Texas Public Policy Foundation to state treasurers, the American Legislative Exchange Council and the Republican Attorneys General Association, the right wing has been on fire ab...

Similar as yesterday, it will be a light breeze with weak steering winds in the atmosphere, meaning showers and storms will continue to be slow-moving and will move in random motions.Expect a mix of sun and clouds with spotty showers for then morning, then scattered showers and storms with more clouds around for the second half of the day. Rain chances will be highest inland and lower near the coast but everyone has that chance for some rain action. Highs will be slightly warmer into the low 90s.On Monday, rain chances will remain at typical values at a 60% chance with highs slightly above normal into the low to mid 90s. How picking 17th changes Orioles’ approach to MLB draft after top-5 streak: ‘Different kind of anxiety’

Published Wed, 12 Feb 2025 07:00:59 GMT

Over the past four MLB drafts combined, only five players have been taken before the Orioles made their first selection. They’ll need to wait more than three times as long this year alone.Baltimore makes the 17th overall pick in next week’s draft, the organization’s first selection outside of the top five since 2018. Twice in the span, the Orioles had the No. 1 pick, allowing them to choose any eligible player they wanted. This year, 16 other teams will make their choice in front of them, altering how Baltimore’s amateur scouting department has put together its draft board.“It’s going to be a little bit different kind of anxiety,” Orioles director of draft operations Brad Ciolek said. “… It has been a little bit more of a challenge, obviously, trying to plan, trying to figure out who is going to be there at pick 17 versus pick one, pick five. You have to cast a little bit of a wider net and be mindful of the names who might fall,...

Howie Carr: Happy Independence Day from obligations to the student loan deadbeats

Published Wed, 12 Feb 2025 07:00:59 GMT

The hardest drug to kick is welfare, as you saw once again Friday with the hysterical reactions of millions of deadbeats who now may actually have to begin paying back the student loans that they voluntarily took out.Over the past three years in no-work-no-problem America, the comrades have become addicted to handouts and all kinds of other free stuff. Tens of millions are now so dissipated that they’ll never be able to support themselves again. The new welfare classes created by COVID have their enablers — “advocates,” as they call themselves — who demand that the handouts must never end.Get a job? Dude, that would trigger me, totally. I hear an alarm clock and I get, like, PTSD. And now the Republicans want me to, like, pay back all that money that I borrowed? Bummer, man! These deadbeats are coddled by politicians who themselves have never done an honest day’s work in their lives — among others, Dementia Joe Biden, the fake Indian and Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Chicago, er, Massachuse...
